“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to THRIVE; and to do so with some PASSION, some COMPASSION, some HUMOR, and some STYLE.” – Maya Angelou
My Journey
In 2012, I began my own personal healing journey while navigating life in Corporate America. I was stuck, often sad, and struggling to communicate in my relationships. Daily microaggressions chipped away at my confidence, and my romantic life reflected my inner turmoil—I was choosing emotionally unsafe men to fill voids, feeling anxious, and doing whatever I could to keep them close. I was also a people pleaser with no boundaries, masking my feelings, and using a “cut-off game” as protection against letting anyone get too close.

Eventually I reached my breaking point...
What I Offer
As a licensed therapist, minister, and consultant, I help individuals, couples, and organizations:
I turned to my faith, seeking solace in my relationship with God. While my spiritual life grew, intense bouts of sadness remained. Stress and hidden pain began manifesting physically. That’s when I decided to seek therapy—a decision that changed my life.

Working with a therapist who integrated faith and therapeutic modalities, I uncovered how much my unregulated emotions, fear of rejection and abandonment, and lack of emotional safety were connected to unhealed childhood wounds, racial trauma, and early life experiences. These wounds were impacting every relationship I had, including my relationship with God.

Through faith and therapy, I found healing. I learned to set boundaries, regulate my emotions, and grow into my authentic self. I began creating emotional safety for myself and my relationships.
-
Foster emotionally safe relationships rooted in trust, empathy, and connection.
-
Bridge the gap between faith and mental health to embrace holistic healing.
-
Navigate the complexities of racial trauma and race-based stress, building tools for resilience and empowerment.
Now, I get to help others do the same.
In 2016, I took a leap of faith, quitting my job to pursue my calling full-time. I enrolled at Christian Theological Seminary, where I earned two master’s degrees in 2020: a Master of Divinity and a Master of Marriage and Family Therapy.

I am the founder of Owens Counseling and Consulting, LLC, a private therapy and consulting practice that integrates faith, culture, and therapy. I also serve as the Associate Pastor at Common Ground Midtown and continue to minister through my home church, Eastern Star Church.

Since 2013, I’ve had the honor of teaching Bible studies, keynoting women’s and singles' ministry events, and guest preaching, including internationally in Uganda. My work bridges the gap between faith and mental health, showing others that you can have Jesus and a therapist.
